Paparazzi king Darryn Lyons hunts would-be supermodels

GEELONG paparazzi king Darryn Lyons has filmed an episode of Channel 7's high-rating Make Me a Supermodel.

The show, hosted by former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins, pits male and female contestants against each other in a bid to win a modelling contract.

Lyons said he was invited on the show to give contestants a taste of what it would be like to be an international celebrity.

"I had two photographers follow them around Sydney and try and catch them out," he said.

"We got some really funny shots after they've had too much to drink and of Shanina (a contestant) with double chins."

Lyons said he believed the segment was a "reality" check for those seeking to become the next catwalk sensation.

"I think they got the shock of their lives when they saw the photos," he said.

Lyons also appeared on an episode of Channel 9's Getaway last Thursday, showing off his favourite holiday spot on the French Riviera.

He told presenter James Dundas he loved St Tropez as it reminded him of Geelong.

"I know that might come across to viewers as bizarre but it's the water and the atmosphere and everything which is great about life," he said. "It reminds me so much of home."

Mr Lyons spent several weeks in Geelong recently to plan a multi-million dollar renovation of the Eureka Hotel, after buying a majority share of the venue in September.

"It's a very tough time for the business community and the world but I really want to make it Victoria's and even Australia's best pub," he said.

He said construction would start in mid-January or early February.
